So you’ve got your doTERRA Home or Family Essentials Kit and you’re ready to change your life with essential oils.

Or at least start getting a bit more sleep.

But now you’ve unboxed, you can’t remember a thing from your class and have no idea what the hell you’re supposed to do with your oils…

You’re not alone in feeling overwhelmed. I may be blending and mixing up roller bottles like a badass now, but it took me a good few months to move on from just diffusing Lavender or On Guard.

Don’t be like me. Dust off your doTERRA Home or Family Essentials Kit* and let’s mix shit up.

Rockin’ roller recipes
doTERRA’s Fractionated Coconut Oil is the best carrier oil for your essential oils – it has no smell and soaks into the skin quickly without leaving greasy residue. It also makes your oils go further.

Now get yourself some metal-topped 10ml roller bottles (they’re around $10 for 8 rollers on eBay or Aromatools) and let’s get on a roll.

Purist’s panadol
Lavender, peppermint, frankincense (8-10 drops of each)
Top with Fractionated Coconut Oil.
Roll on to temples, pulse points and the back of the neck when you feel a headache coming on.

Wart worrier
Oregano (15 drops)
Tea Tree (12 drops)
Top with Fractionated Coconut Oil.
Roll on to the wart 3 to 5 times a day for around 2 weeks.

Calm in a bottle
Lavender (15 drops)
Wild Orange or Lemon (10 drops)

Roll on to your temples, pulse points, over your heart and on the back of the neck before bed and when you feel anxious.

Feeling shitty

Top with Fractionated Coconut Oil.
Roll on to your tummy for diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, constipation or anything related to spews and poos.

Easy peasy DIY
Try these DIY recipes that won’t make you want to punch yourself in the face. Glass bottles and jars are best – pure essential oils can leach the nasty toxins out of plastic.

Spray n’ wipe without the shite
1 cup white vinegar
¼ cup water
Lemon or On Guard (8 drops)
Put everything in a small glass spray bottle and shake. Use for everything. The Lemon option is also a great glass and mirror cleaner.

Bloody awesome bath soak
1 cup of Epsom/magnesium salts
6-8 drops of your favourite oil (Lavender and Frankincense are great to ground and relax. Ice Blue can be used for aching muscles but go easy – start with 4 drops to one cup of Epsom salts).
Put half the salts in a glass jar, drop in your oils, add the rest of the salts, close the lid and shake it up.
Use 1-2 teaspoons in a warm bath, pour yourself a wine and lock the door.

Buzz-off bug repellant
Lemon (4 drops)
Lavender (8 drops)
Peppermint 6 drops)
Melaleuca (4 drops)
Place drops in a 150ml glass spray bottle, fill half way with witch hazel and half way with distilled water. Spray bodies, clothes and bags to keep the mozzies and flies away – keep away from the eyes and mouth (unless someone is being a real bloody pest).

Here are 10 quick fixes and tips to help you make the most of your doTERRA Home Essentials Kit.

  1. Burns, bites and stings – Lavender.
  2. Spots and cuts – Tea Tree.
  3. Chocolate cakes, brownies and bliss ball flavouring – Wild Orange or Peppermint (2 or 3 drops per batch is plenty)
  4. Spag bol – Oregano (it’s a hot and strong oil so just 1 drop per 1kg of meat. Cooking less? Use a toothpick to get less than a drop.)
  5. Fresh breath and workouts – a small drop of Peppermint under the tongue for minty fresh breath and open airways.
  6. Post-workout – Ice Blue diluted with FCO for aching muscles.
  7. Lemon water – use a drop of lemon instead of fresh lemon to start your day right. Lemon essential oil comes from peel so there’s no acid damage to your pearly whites.
  8. Mouth sores, gum irritation or sore throat – put a drop On Guard in half a glass of water and gargle/swish.
  9. Skin imperfections – mix 1 drop of Frankincense in with your night moisturiser or add to a few drops of Jojoba oil.
  10. Kids’ sleep time – put a drop or two of Lavender on a tissue and put it between your kid’s pillowcase and pillow.

So now there’s no excuse for leaving your oils in the box. And if you haven’t got your oils yet, let me hook you up.

Got any oily tips, blends or recipes to share? Leave me a comment and share your smugness with the world (or at least with the 15 or so people who’ll read this, not including my mum).

*Note: I’ve included Wild Orange in the mix as a lot of people get a sample of this joyful little oil when they attend a class.
